Our Parent Council was established in September 2015, and is made up of an elected Parent from each year group (8 in total), the Head Teacher and a representative from the Governing Board.
Meetings are held termly to discuss matters which support school improvement priorities and are chaired by one of our parent representatives.
A message from the Chair of Parent Council 2016-17
I’ve recently finished a year as the chair of the Parent Council and was asked to put together a few words to explain the role of the council and hopefully encourage parents/carers to volunteer for next year’s council.
This last year was my first associated with the school, due to my son starting in F1. Having not been involved in a school setting pretty much since I left (a long time ago!) I thought the opportunity to join the council would be great for me to learn about the school and hopefully contribute in some small way.
The role of the council is to provide a parents/carers perspective and input on things such as school policies, this year we looked at the Anti-Bullying policy, and to help with ongoing issues. This year we looked at the car parking around the school during start and finish times. Whilst it’s not a definitive group that can solve all the potential issues I think that it’s a great idea and shows that the school is willing to involve the parents/carers and give them a chance to have a positive input.
I would urge anybody to volunteer if they feel they want to learn more about the school and who want to provide a positive input to the school and its policies. It’s one afternoon every half term so if you can dedicate this time and really want to be involved then look out for the letter next year and put your name forward.
