Welcome to our Governors’ section.
In the Diocese of Sheffield’s Academies Trust, ultimate accountability and governance lies with our trust board. However, our Local Governing Body are valued partners in the trust’s mission and are our local feet on the ground.
Chair of Governors Welcome
Hello and welcome to St Oswald’s Church Of England Academy.
The Governing body in partnership with our Head teacher Mrs Patton, children, parents and staff work together to deliver a warm, welcoming family feel to our church school and I am proud to lead the Governing Body of St Oswald’s Church Of England Academy and enjoy working for the benefit of our children, parents and staff.
Our Governing Body is currently made up of 11 members, representing Holy Trinity and St Oswald’s church, the Diocese of Sheffield, elected parents and members of school staff. We are proud to have a Governing Body that is made up of a team of individuals with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.
We are a rural school situated in the heart of Finningley village. We enjoy strong links with the local church, Holy Trinity and St Oswald’s, and we are passionate about delivering opportunities to our children and ensuring each child reaches their full potential, enshrined in a rich Christian environment.
As governors we have responsibility to ensure that the school delivers a first class education for all our children, regardless of their background. We do this in a variety of ways:
We meet as a full board to monitor the overall strategy of the school taking into account national education guidelines and agreeing a range of targets ensuring the progress of all children.
The Governing Body also operates through sub committees groups, these groups monitor all aspects of school life, children’s progress, finance and policies.
As Governors we meet with our children regularly through attendance at acts of worship, assemblies, Pupil Parliament, school trips as well as being in and around school.
Parents play an important role in the work of the school and the home school partnership is integral to delivering the very best education, so governors take every opportunity to interact with parents and strengthen the relationship between home and school life.
The Governing Body and Trustees decided last year that the school should join the Diocese of Sheffield Academies Trust (DSAT), this transition was completed in December 2018.
I hope you find our website interesting and informative but if you require any further information do please hesitate to contact the school office or myself.

Meet our Governors:
Mr D Moore (Chair of Governors/Foundation Governor)
Hello! I have been a Governor at St Oswalds since 2014 and also Chair of Governors since 2018. I have two children, one of whom still attends St Oswalds and is currently in Yr4, and my eldest daughter left last summer and now attends The Hayfield School. I’m currently employed as the Managing Director of a manufacturing company based in Scunthorpe. I love being a Governor because I can play a small part in helping our children achieve their academic potential whilst also recognising their valuable place in our school and village community life, and ensuring they have a fun time whilst doing this too!
Mrs A Navas (Foundation Governor)
Hello,
My name is Alison Navas and I am really proud to be a Foundation governor at St Oswald’s
I live in Finningley village and know how valuable it is to the whole community to have a school that delivers the highest standards education for the children and families that it serves.
I am currently a serving head teacher at another Church of England primary school in Doncaster and am absolutely passionate about working with children, most particularly within a church school setting. The most rewarding aspect of my roles as both a teacher and a governor is to see children thrive academically, socially and spiritually within a happy, caring and compassionate learning community.
St Oswald’s is a school that is very close to my heart. I was a teacher at the school for eight very happy years before I moved on to deputy headship and headship and I still love it when parents and past pupils stop me for a chat in the village. It is lovely to hear their news and see the adults that those children have become!
I look forward to continuing to work with Mrs Patton and the whole school team as St Oswald’s .
Mrs H Dalby (Staff Governor)
I have been a teacher at St Oswald's Academy since 2017. During this time, I have enjoyed teaching across KS1 and lower KS2. I am passionate about providing our children with the best possible education so that each individual reaches their true potential. I am excited about my role as Staff Governor as I feel it will provide me with further opportunity to work alongside staff, families and our community to ensure our pupils receive an enriching and inspiring curriculum.
Rev N Redeyoff (Foundation Governor - ex-officio)
I’m the Rector of Holy Trinity and St Oswald’s Church, and being a Governor forms part of my role in the Parish. However, I’ve been involved voluntarily with governing bodies for the past 20 years and love working together with our school. I’m married and have three grown up children, and when I’m not on ‘vicar’ duties I play the keyboard and drums (not together), and enjoy watching Formula 1.
Mrs M Wharton (Foundation Governor)
Hello, my name is Marion Wharton and I have been a Governor for many years. I am a Foundation Governor and active member of St Oswald's Church . Although retired now, I was a teacher and Headteacher and still retain the passion for seeing children learn and flourish. I am Finningley born and bred so I am committed to helping the community. I enjoy volunteering in school- working in different classes, going on school visits and being Link Governor for Maths . My interests are walking, gardening, travelling, reading and the theatre .
